Our Story

Our History

Where It All Began

Reverend David Crutcher and nine other men started the Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church in 1911. From 1911 through 1913, services were conducted in Rev. and Mrs. Crutcher’s house. A building fund was formed in 1913, one-half acre of land was provided by the Crutchers, supplies were acquired, and labor was donated by neighbors. The building of our first church edifice was finished in the fall of 1913.

A Church Built On A Hill

We were fortunate to have 6 different pastors between 1913 and 1968, which contributed to significant growth. Several advancements and developments occurred during that time, including the formation of plans for a new church, the organization of several ministries, and the acquisition of additional land. Reverend Percy Boone oversaw the construction of a brand-new church that featured a sanctuary, a fellowship hall, and five classrooms.

A Lasting Impact

As membership and ministries expanded, additional buildings were constructed to meet that growth. A new 24,000 square foot worship and educational building was completed in 1989, and in 1997 we were privileged to finish work on our 35,000 square foot Community Life Center. Both of these facilities significantly improve the church’s capacity to reach out to people for Christ in unconventional ways. We accomplish this in a variety of ways, including the Child Development Center, Tutorial Ministry, fields/courts for recreational teams, and hosting community-serving groups such as Christian Women’s Job Corps and the American Red Cross.

JOHN 1:12

But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
